MUSIC

In honor of ACL's lineup release this morning, I thought I'd post a video of my favorite Stevie Wonder song, "Boogie on Reggae Woman". It's a wonder I'm not dancing out of my cubicle right now.

I had no idea how incredible this video was until this moment. It is all over the place, a wonderful montage of women.

Speaking of incredible women, Merrill Garbus of Tune-yards fascinates me.  Maybe it's best that her band wasn't included on the ACL lineup. This is a band I would love to see perform on a smaller stage. This video is brilliantly bizarre.

OVERDUE

It's been almost a month since we took our trip to west Texas. Marfa now sits pretty on my top 10 places to retire list. Or maybe one not-so-far-away day, I could make my home there as a full-time vintage scavenger and crafter. I've left lots of room for dreams like these.

Here are a couple of the photos I took while we were wandering...

KUDOS

One of Cats Purring's own... Bass Drum of Death "Get Found" video premiere! There are a lot of familiar faces. I absolutely love it. Congrats guys!

Buy their album. they're good people.

MOTHERS DAY

I was walking downtown on Sunday when I found a bird on the sidewalk. He was clearly yearning for some motherly love, because he let me pick him up and love him for quite some time. I figured he was injured but he showed no signs of pain. Sure enough, once he had stolen all the love his little heart could handle, he flew away. He left my life as fast as he had entered it.

Happy (belated) Mother’s Day! Your children need you more than you know.

ROAD TRIP

We are heading out on our adventure to Marfa, TX tomorrow morning. Marfa is located 445 miles from Austin in the desert of West Texas. Texas really amazes me; you can drive for 6+ hours in any direction and still be in Texas. I’ve never seen anything like it.Some of the things I’m looking forward to on the trip:

An Old Crow Medicine Show cover of Gus cannon’s Minglewood Blues.
“Don’t you never let no woman rule your mind."

Jade singing Fire and Water. “Love go ahead, Love go behind us.”

Mumford and Sons, Sister.
“There's a chip on your shoulder, girl
And by God it'll make you fall
If you let it take a part of your soul”

Reenacting Lonesome Dove.
“It's not dying I'm talking about, it's living.”

Chasing after Marfa’s Mystery Lights

Walking away with a pretty cool screenprinted poster (fingers crossed).

Finding some fancy postcards to snail mail.
